Michael Chambers tries to be a nice guy. So when his girlfriend's cat runs away, he volunteers to go look for it. What he finds instead is a pooka--a shapeshifting faerie sent to take over his life. After a conk on the head, Michael wakes up at the base of the Hollywood sign, under assault by a horde of something right out of a Tolkein novel--or at least the movie versions.

A militant faerie princess and her punk rocker body guard come to his rescue. Naturally, he's grateful, right up until he learns that they're the reason he's there in the first place. They want something from him, and they won't let him go home until they get it.

Kidnapped by faeries, forced into a fight that's not his, and--oh yeah!--that impostor pooka's back home, making time with his girlfriend; Michael's through playing nice guy. He's going to get his life back, even if he has to slay an army of evil faeries to do it.

Stupid cat.

After unofficially entering this year's NaNoWriMo with this novel under the Zokutou Clause, I sprinted through 20,000 of the last 25,000 or so words of this novel. Now with only three and a half scenes left to write before it's finished, I'm getting all set to start posting it here later this month.

And you can read it, totally free of charge. All you have to do is either leave a comment here asking me to add you to my Friends List, or simply add this journal to yours, and I'll add you right back. If you're not a LiveJournal user, you can still sign up via MyOpenID (read here for more details on how this works).

All I ask in return is for reader feedback. The feedback gathered here will not only help me shape this novel into its final draft and prepare it for marketing elsewhere, but also help me determine whether it's even good enough to do so. At any rate, if you've enjoyed my writing in the past, or if you enjoy any of its many influences (see the Interests section of my profile), I think you'll enjoy this story.

I'm glad you're here. I think we're all in for a fun ride.
